Default need some input!

thinking about getting a 1997 or 1998 A4 1.8t but not sure what year is better and if i should get QUATTRO? i need some input from people that have either or. thanx

Default If you can...stick w/ the 98 as 97 has had problems w/ wastegate rod failures...

...and quattro would be nice. If you going to mod (i.e. exhaust, suspension), it'll be easier if you have quattro as there is a wider aftermarket support than the FWD market. Go figure.

i hear that quattro make the A4 alot slower then just FWD. True/False
can i get better performance with quattro?

Default Well...

...it's true that quattro will make the car heavier and have higher driveline losses that will result in lower wheel hp than our FWD counterpart. Off the line, quattro will take a FWD easy, assuming they're both A4's with the same amount of mods. However, if you take the time to search around for parts and mods, you'll find that there is a greater aftermarket support for quattro than FWD. If you going to mod heavily, might prove to be more difficult, but it can be done will a lot of research and possibly custom work.

what if i get an auto with a shift chip? will that make up for not going with stick?

My vote (and i'm a little partial) is to go with a 98.5 if you can- alot changed in that half-year, plus you get the look of the newer A4s (no orange tails, etc). Tis the best for the buck. Good luck. Oh yeah- definately Quattro.
