Does anyone else find the Oct. 2001 A4 sales figures interesting?

If you read the article on the home page about the sales figures for Oct 2001, something should strike you as odd, but right in line with what many on here have predicted. October was the 1st month of the new A4 sales AND COUNTED all the cars that were pre-ordered over the last several months! This brand new redesign of the A4 with all its hype, reviews and pre-orders only sold 72 more A4's than were sold in the previous October, 2000. In October 2000, people were buying an A4 that was 6 model years old!

The economy? Maybe. The looks of the new car? Probably.

I think it's more likely that not that many people will order a car sight unseen.

In all likelyhood the data from October is statistically useless because of that. Now you can comepared November 2000 to November 2001 when those come out for a better comparison, given that most people test drive cars, kick the tires, and all that before they buy them. That'll give you a better idea of the popularity of the new vs. the classic design.

BTW I agree with your sentiments. I've seen the new car with my own eyeballs. I'm still not impressed. The interior while having a few nice extra touches like the storage bins and the six disc in-dash receiver is still not as appealing as my 2001.5.
