Dip Stick broke!!!

I checked my oil this morning, kind of cold, here in NJ and when I re-inserted the dip stick ,the plastic orange sleeve at the bottom of the handle broke off and stayed on the oil tube. I had to break it off with pliers and a screw driver and obviously the dip stick would not stay in the tube any longer, so I had to rent a car to get to work. The Audi parts guy, says it happens alot and to come in a pick up a new plastic sleeve for a few $'s.

Any one experience this before??

Nope - but next time just run the car w/out the dipstick and just put a temp. cap over it.

Can't you just drive with the tube uncovered? It's a long tube afterall. (m)

I don't think it's pressurized or anything is it?
