Default What are the options for wiring the city lights in the A4 Euro Projectors?

I'm still recovering from the late night with the triple swap and aiming of headlights. Thanks again Ben! I hope you're enjoying Dave's Euro Xenons. I wish one of us had a camera last night because we had 4 light options for the A4 all together last night:

Me with Ben's Halogen Euros
Ben with Dave's Xenon Euros
Dave with my Halogen US-spec (He's turning in his car under lease is the reason for the swap.)
Raj with his Xenon US-spec

It was quite a sight to see all 4 different beam patterns and light output.

Anyway... Dave had his city lights wired up into connection #3 and then it was spliced into one of the turn signal wires. I didn't want to take it apart, since I figure someone here would know. The wires are Brown (ground, right?), Black with a White stripe, and Black with a Gray stripe. (You know, with all that engineering, you'd think they'd use yellow or green to differentiate them and not just different stripes that look almost the same!) Which one is the "flash" wire, so that I know which one is constant to slice into for it to work?

Any tips, especially for getting the wire to stay in connection #3? Would soldering it be the best option? I hope not, I hate working with that stuff.

Thanks!

Default Um.. one thing

Don't solder. You should use butt connectors for that wiring. Best bet is probably the connectors with the heat shrink stuff on either end. That's what Audi and VW use.

Stick two wires into Butt connector. Crimp down in middle. Available @ Radioshack.

Default butt connectors are just little insulated metal tubes. You take

the stripped end of one wire, and the stripped end of the other wire you want to connect it to, and crimp them both in there. I think the connectors are color coded for different wire gauge. if you are using the Audi/VW jumper wires, you will want the blue ones (for 14-16 gauge I think) should be able to get them at home depot or somewhere like that. Don't try pepboys.. they never seem to have them.

Why do you say not to solder?

Default True, but butt connectors are IMHO more prone to come loose...

Unless you really crimp well... But the heat under the hood can loosen the crimp anyway..

Having said that, I do use butts all the time.. I just wondered what you had against soldering.

Yeah.. no problem.. just a little safer to use butt connectors in that situation, IMO
