Default Woo hoo, got new brakes installed.

Decided to go with ATE Powerdiscs up front, Zimmerman OE rotors out back, and Mintex Red Box all the way around. Got the parts from Adirondack. Great people there. Highly recommended.

As I am mechanically challenged I had the brakes installed by an independent shop that specializes in German cars. They only do work on MB, Porche, BMW, Audi and VW. Its called German Auto Repair in New Orleans. Super service, fair pricing and most importantly, tons of expierience with Audis.

I am very pleased with the set up so far. I still need to bed in the pads, but right out of the box they preform great. Looking forward to reduced dust on the wheels.

Parts: 2 ATE Powerdisc rotors (stock size)
2 Zimmerman rear rotors (stock size)
Mintex Red Box pads (front & rear)
ATE regular fluid (NOT superblue)
$300 including shipping

Labor: 4.8 hours $288

The car has 51K miles on it. I plan on keeping it for a long time, so the cost is well justified. One question though. For all you guy and gals with Red Box, how did you bed in your pads? I plan on doing 7-10 stops, from 50-10mph with medium pressure on the pedal. Then not abuse the brakes for 200 miles or so. Keep emergency stops to a minimum. Good plan? Opinions and thoughts welcome.

Default 5 hours to do a pad/rotor switch? Does that seem a tad high?

I could do it in my driveway in about 4 hours, with airtools and a competent mechanic I can't imagine it taking that long.

1/2 hour per corner, then bleeding with a pressure bleeder is like 30mins.

Default They charged me for 4.8hrs of labor. I left the car with them for the day..

so it could have taken them less time, I really don't know for sure. As stated in my post, I am mechanically challenged, and none of my buddies is mechanically proficient so I am kind of at the mercy of mechanics. I checked around, and these guys were the lowest price I was quoted.

Default break in plan sounds fine

Takes me about 3 hours to change front and rear pads. Rears take longer because of trying to screw the damn piston back in. You might want to get the tool at harbor Freight or wherever that helps turn the piston.
