Well I'm back from my 2002 A4 vs. Passat comparison

Both cars are awesome.
Brakes on both cars seemed mushy.
Power from the 1.8 on each is not enough, but I can chip. The quality of the interior materials is near identical, but I like the interior of the A4 a little more (1st gen A4 is waaay better than both). The A4 did seem a little cramped though, so as far as comfort the Passat wins hands down. I was only able to test each with an automatic which is probably why they felt so underpowered. I didn't think quattro would be so much different from front wheel drive but boy was I wrong. I love the feel of the A4 when hitting the corners hard, too bad it didn't have the sport package though. The A4 seemed to have almost more body roll than the Passat, but both have very nice solid suspension. Bose blows monsoon out of the water, but isn't worth the $850. Audi Nav. unit is sweet as hell, but again not worth the money. So now I am even more confused as to which vehicle to buy. The Passat would be exactly 22k for the GLS 1.8 manual with the leather package. The A4 1.8 manual with quattro, sport package and xenons would be 28,275 which seem really high plus I would have to order the car. I think that I'll probably go for the Passat since the price is awesome, but I really want the A4. I quess I'll have to postpone my choice until I drive both with a manual.
BTW, the colors I saw on the A4 were ming blue, beige, dolphin and denim. Dolphin is perfect with the unpainted lowers. Denim looks kind of feminine and alot lighter than in pics so I believe it only looks good on the TT. Ming is nice but it's so dark I thought it was black at first. Beige looks super non-sporty but elegant. Dolphine is THE color for the new A4.
