Default Well I'm back from my 2002 A4 vs. Passat comparison

Audi vs Passat

Both cars are awesome.
Brakes on both cars seemed mushy.
Power from the 1.8 on each is not enough, but I can chip. The quality of the interior materials is near identical, but I like the interior of the A4 a little more (1st gen A4 is waaay better than both). The A4 did seem a little cramped though, so as far as comfort the Passat wins hands down. I was only able to test each with an automatic which is probably why they felt so underpowered. I didn't think quattro would be so much different from front wheel drive but boy was I wrong. I love the feel of the A4 when hitting the corners hard, too bad it didn't have the sport package though. The A4 seemed to have almost more body roll than the Passat, but both have very nice solid suspension. Bose blows monsoon out of the water, but isn't worth the $850. Audi Nav. unit is sweet as hell, but again not worth the money. So now I am even more confused as to which vehicle to buy. The Passat would be exactly 22k for the GLS 1.8 manual with the leather package. The A4 1.8 manual with quattro, sport package and xenons would be 28,275 which seem really high plus I would have to order the car. I think that I'll probably go for the Passat since the price is awesome, but I really want the A4. I quess I'll have to postpone my choice until I drive both with a manual.

BTW, the colors I saw on the A4 were ming blue, beige, dolphin and denim. Dolphin is perfect with the unpainted lowers. Denim looks kind of feminine and alot lighter than in pics so I believe it only looks good on the TT. Ming is nice but it's so dark I thought it was black at first. Beige looks super non-sporty but elegant. Dolphine is THE color for the new A4.

Go for the A4 for better resale value and warranty.

Warranty is the same pretty much. Is resale that much better with the A4?

Default Yea, they changed it...

4 year/50K for B2B. I think 5 year/60K powertrain now. Old was 2 year/24K B2B, 10 year/100K powertrain.

Default that's much better!

I hated that stupid 2/24000 B2B when I had my Passat.

Default 23,800 miles on my 2K Passat. Time for a trade!

I've had 23K miles on mine for about 6 months. I think I'm going to go 2002 Passat for a couple reasons. They're real cheap for a new German car, and their financing is great til the end of the month. Can't stand the chrome all the way around the car now, but it can be painted. I'd love to get an Audi, but $$$ for the new ones.

Default This might help on your reasle question.

Although it's for 2001 models, it will give you a little indicator as to how your residual may fare (assuming you're looking at all 2002 models).

Note the ****tay residuals on the 01 A4....brutal.<ul><li><a href="http://www.cars.com/carsapp/latimes/?&srv=lease&act=populate&tf=/advice/bestworst/residuals/residuals.tmpl">Residuals.....</a></li></ul>
