PLEASE HELP!!! Seriously malfunctioning gas gauge........

When my gas gauge gets to just under a half tank, the needle will just suddenly drop to zero, as if the tank were completely empty. The "low on gas" warning light comes on, and the trip computer tells me that I have zero miles miles left before I need gas.

It will stay like this for a few seconds, then the needle will jump right back up to where it should be, everything cool. Then it will drop again. It randomly goes on and off like this....until I fill the tank with gas. Everything works fine until it gets to about 3/8 tank left.

COULD THIS BE CAUSED BY MY NEWLY INSTALLED EXHAUST?

Just installed a Brullen exhaust last weekend, and I am getting some interference. When I take a spirited right turn, I hear some some clunking. Haven't had a chance to fix it yet, will do soon. Any chance that the exhaust has bumped into the sensor? Maybe loosened the connection or somehow otherwise damaged it? Where is the sensor? Anywhere near the exhaust?

sounds like sending unit...

don't know about the exhaust, but doesn't seem like it would interfere. Had a similar behavior on my temp gauge which turned out to be the coolant sensor.

sending unit. There is almost no possiblity of the new exhaust causing this..

unless you guys buggered up a wire when you did the install. Are you still under warrantee?

It's part of the pump assembly. You have to remove the top part of the pump to get at it.

It's mounted to the Surge Housing, which the fuel pump is also attached to. Probably best left to the dealer since you are still under warrantee =)

It is basically an adjustable resistor with a float arm, sends a signal to the dash. Really low tech actually.
