Default well, the 1.8T is a little engine...it's 1.8 liters =)

depends on how much moolah you are looking to spend.
A chip on a 1.8T, $400-$500, gets you to 200-210 hp. Which is already more. Add and exhaust and you get an additional 10-15hp, for anywhere between $450-$1000.
For another $5000, you can get a new turbo setup, which will give you 300-320hp.

For the 2.8 there is not much you can do performance wise other than the usual mods (intake, exhaust)wich give modest results. Unless you want to get a PES supercharger (30valve only). This will give you ~280hp for about $5000.

Confused yet?

Default even with smaller engine...

1.8tqm is the most modable a4, even with the small engine, it can get up to 300 with the right stuff. get a chip for about 200 hq, and pully for better acceleration reaction. 2.8 is heavier.

Default Re: 1.8T Vs 2.8

I have a 1.8T and I'll smoke any 2.8 any day off the line. and this is why. my car is lighter which means it will naturally excellerate faster it and brake faster. I also there are very few aftermarket parts for a 2.8 the only thing you can do is strap on a super charger. thats great for 5 grand. but the last thing you should consider is resale value, no one wants the V6 in the A4 because that V6 in the A4 is not a very desirable setup. you might as well go after the twin turbo V6 setup in the S4 because its performance is unsurpassed in its class and besides I'm in quattro club out here in Chicago and no 2.8 guys come out with us because they can't keep up and thats true. peace out dude I hope i helped you out

Default That's nothing compared to my dual 12v setup.

800hp with NEGATIVE drivetrain loss. That's right, I actually gain power from friction! Plus my 40hp skull ****! ;P
