Default 8 hours work + Eibach springs + a lot of cussing = Better ride!

After finally being able to find a spring compressor at a local gas station, I spent most of my weekend installing Eibach pro-kit springs on my A4. It was hard work with a lot of bloody knuckles, but in the end I'm quite pleased with the results. The fender gap went down from a full fist to two fingers and the ride didn't suffer any. Looks like alignments is still right on also, but I'll have it checked just to make sure.
If you're good with tools and can find a spring compressor I highly recommend performing this install yourself and saving some $$$.

Default Apart from the spring compressors, do you need any special tools?

how easy would you say it is for someone who is average at this type of stuff?

Default Kinda. See the FAQ for list, but basically metric sockets and hex wrenches.

The only difficult part is loosening the bolt on top of the front strut. You have to hold the bolt with a hex wrench and at the same time unscrew the nut with a deep 18mm socket. If you can find a deep 18mm socket with a six sided top it'll be easy, but I could only find one with a round finish and it was a pain to get a good grip on it.

Default Yeah i read the FAQ...

It's the bit about using the protractor and setting the alignment that bothers me

Was the FAQ accurate

Default Just have the alignment checked afterwards by a pro

I'm by no means an expert, but from what I saw while I was under the car there is no adjustment on the strut mountings themselves, all the adjustments are done only on the parts of suspension I didn't have to touch. This pretty much ensures that you won't screw up your alignment by removing the struts. I think only toe-in will be affected, but even that should be a minimal change.

I was busy installing my subwoofer - the weather was just right for it.
