sorta OT but looking to purchase a roof rack- (m)
Basically it will be for transporting surfboards and a mtn bike- Ive heard from serval folks to ONLY look at the thule system as it has "round" mounts- is this true - are there other brands which are comparable? also just want to ask those with the thule how happy they are with the fitment on the a4 and have they had any issues- TIA

My yakima has tubing ,, Thule has rectangular tubing
Are you talking about the load bars? Some say that the rectangular tubing of the Thule is better for anti-rotation of accessories. I've had both brands and like the yakima overall. Mostly due to fit and finish.

just did some searching and noticed that- I wonder if the dude I talked to actaully
meant the yakima (round) vs the thule- do you have the yakima rack? if so how do you like it- is the fitment good? ie no stress on the car rails etc...

I have a Thule with no problems...
You can't go wrong with Thule or Yakima...both are very high quality. For a cheaper alternative for the bike trays, check out Rocky Mounts.<ul><li><a href="http://www.mtbreview.com/reviews/Bike_Rack/product_19948.shtml">Rocky Mounts reviews</a></li></ul>

no stress on the load bars. Though lots of wind noise ...
on the highway with or without a mtb on the rack. I have the wind deflector but haven't put it on yet. Others on this board have said that the wind deflector makes a subtle difference.

I have never had the fairing on my A4 or S4...
I used to use it on the CRX and it does help some. I've gotten used to the wind noise, but it's not really that bad with the Audi (when the sunroof and cover are closed).

I just got a yakima
Easy installation and easy to put on and takeoff. Especially since Audi puts marks where the clips should go.
Another thing to consider is that I don't see Thule in many stores any longer. At least that is how it is in So Cal
