Are there any negative short or long term effects if you chip your A4?

increased stress on the overboosted turbo. some have problems and some don't...
but if i had a 1.8 i would chip it :-) Matter of fact one day down the line when my car dies I plan to get a 1.8 Avant and chipping it.

I haven't had any things happen to my car yet. But of course there must be long term effects. I was reading the TT board and apparently Audi beefs up the 225TT motor for the slight power increase over the 180TT. That motor has forged pistons and beefed up main bearings, or so I read. So I do believe that chipping will cause premature wear on the car, but there is no telling how premature. People have driven their cars in to the ground well past warranty is up and they are on AW still having fun. Chances are you won't have any problems, but it's really a gamble.

I was in the same boat as you...bought a chip last year.
I am about as far away from the midnight-modder guys on this board. I am very conservative, but I kept reading about how the chip really transforms the car. I finally broke down and sent my ECU to APR to have it reprogrammed. I got it back in about 3 days, hooked it back up, followed the enclosed instructions, and it worked great.
I haven't had a single problem with the chip. About 10K miles after chipping, one of the hoses to the turbo cracked, and I lost boost. Took it to the dealer and it was replaced under warranty. Regarding the chip, they didn't ask and I didn't tell
The car drives great. All I have done is chip it, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
APR was great to deal with, but there are several places to get it done.
