picked up the S4 today...
First, I bought a Santorin/Silver 2001 from Bill Sacks at New Country in Greenwich -- he did a great job of getting the car from a dealer in Oneonta for me on *very* short notice, and was generally quite helpful. Paid $1000 under MSRP.
1> The Santorin paint is the *absolute* worst-photographed paint out there.. I've very rarely seen pictures that even come close to how beautiful it is in person -- the brochures show it as an almost navy blue, but it's far deeper and brighter than that. The combination with the silver letter is absolutely breathtaking. Closest thing I can compare the silver leather to is the grey leather that was available on E36 M3's.. beautiful, beautiful stuff.
2> The interior/gauge cluster is probably the best of any car out there.. I drove a friend's M-B M330 and a 740i today, and both *paled* in comparison.
3> The Bose stereo, while not bad at all, *does* tend to bias the soundstage to the rear of the car. Fiddling with the fader does help, but it does need a bit of work.. MB Quart, here I come :P
4> The brakes on the S4 are highly underrated.. wow do they stop hard. Definitely takes some getting used to.
5> The power of the engine is remarkable.. the torque band is just so wide.. really satisfying.
I'm looking forward to some more driving in/around Westchester before heading out to California next week.. 3000miles of fun lie ahead of me, I'll make sure to take notes :P
