Pictures of Imola's Inauguration to California
So I finally got around to getting estimates for the damage to my car during my first week here in Cali.
I actually got two estimates. I got my own from one company and it was $3000. The isurance company however wanted me to at least get an estimate from one of their companies. Which turned out to be the exact same shop but a different branch. (shrug) It came out to be $1500
Anyway, my estimate included a new hood, a new side fender, painting, and blending. They'd remove whatever needed to be removed and for the moldings, the stuff that was "sticky" would be replaced and repainted as well.
The estimate the insurance company got would give me a replacement hood, paint and blend as well. However, they want to "fix" the side quarter panel and anything they are going to replace they will get from wherever they want, which doesn't have to be audi. This means that they can get the hood and side moldings from a junk yard if they wanted to.
What do I do? (I know what I _WANT_ to do). The insurance company does say however that if I do the work by their estimate that the work is guranteed for the life of the car, and if it ever goes bad, they redo it for free.

I had a little pothole incident a little while back, and when I looked through my policy (you know, that 150+ page document you got) I found that the policy guarantees original Audi parts from Audi only -- unless I say otherwise. Also, I can pick any shop I want -- with reasonable rates, of course. So look through your policy, you may be entitled to original Audi parts. If it's going over your deductable, who cares how much the insurance company has to pay out?

Hrrrm... I never even knew that "original parts" could be a clause in an insurance policy...
I thought it was usually just restore to like new condition... which is vague at best!
