Newbie - How many miles before chipping?
Do chips effect reliability, or smoothness if drive?
Any recomendations for chips for the 2001?
Thanks,
Definately wait at least 1,000 miles. No reason to chip during the breakin period.
From the many messages I've read, seems like most people wait until they log approx. 3,000 - 4,000 miles before chipping.
Other may say, wait a bit longer, the S4 has had some negative feedback in relation to chipping. They would recommend waiting til about the 6,000 - 8,000 mile mark.
The 2001 model does have some slight changes to the turbos, TBB, TBB Clamps etc. that should improve the reliability of the parts in question.
I would wait til 3k and if your machine is running strong with no problems then revisit the idea.
For the last week I've been running the stock program because I ended up with lower octane gas in the car and ignoring the fact that my gas milage sucks when its not chipped, the car is still such a blast to drive. The MTM springs I really believe helped the feel of the car day-to-day more than the chip did.
Where chipping is concerned, everyone seems to agree to wait until after the car is funny broken in. As I said in the subject, I waited 6k miles, a friend was told to wait 10k by his dealer. Somewhere in that range is good. I think its a good idea to really get a feel for the S4 and what it can do when pushed to the edge stock before adding 70hp.
