Dealer Demo Car? Would You Buy? How Much?
on the clock (a 2000).
Would you buy a dealer demo car? If so, what should it cost?
I purchased dealer demos a couple of times. The first time the poor girl that
was driving it had to go get her stuff out of it so they could clean it up for me
to take home :-) . I had no trouble in either case. The last one the owner of
the dealership told the sales manager (in front of me) "I have driven the
profit out of the car, sell it to him at invoice" - and they did.
I know the S4 is a high performance twin turbo, but it will have the full warranty
if I have problems - and I likely will trade the car before the warranty is up (
if I don't lease it). So long term (passed the warranty) is not a big concern.
If I don't find anything I like better down the road, and I have had no problems
with the car - then I could still keep it longer.
Should I take this car? At what price? Invoice? Does Audi offer their own
extended warranties? Should I make them buy one for me if I buy their car?
The difference between "near invoice" for a 2000 and near full MSRP for a 2001
is quite a bit of money.
Thanks!
Dennis
A dealer demo is a free rental car for an employee of the dealership. You drive the hell out of it, do things in it you wouldn't do in your own car, and get your yaya's out basically. When you and I buy our cars, it is our hard earned money and we take care of our cars like an investment. When its handed to your for free, you don't care. Sure if you can justify the cost, go for it. I personally bought a used 2000 S4 from an everyday joe and the car had 13.5k miles on it and I got it for around $35k. Everyone thinks the car is brand new and don't believe me when I tell them its used. I payed a little more that what I might have paid for a dealer demo, but it was still much less than the $49k a local dealer was asking (with markup) for an Imola 2001.
So its your call... i wouldn't do it though warrenty or not.
