MPG question with MTM chip

I have a 2000 s4 and added the MTM exhaust and chip. Stock MPG is 17 and 24. I go between San Francisco and Tahoe often and I have been seeing 25+ MPG according to my computer. My drive is 177 miles door to door and I usually average about 70mph. Tonight I averaged 71 with an MPG of nearly 26.

What gives? Not complaining mind you, just curious.

too many varialbes...chip dont make a diff

Even with the variables, do you get over the book 24mpg??

I realize that 177 miles is not scientific but after numerous runs on the same route at well over testing speeds at the factor, which I assume are 55 or 60 mph, I still get better mpg than I 'should'.

I am just trying to comprehend how a chip could produce more power AND better mps's.

I got 27.9 with cruise control set at 74mph on a 700 mile trip one way.
On the return, I had the cruise mostly set between 84-89 and got 25.1 mpg
I haven't been able to get it under 20mpg on a tank of gas yet, even with city driving only.
Chipping tomorrow, anxious to see if there is a difference.
Right now, best I could figure, I'd have to drive 90mph highway only to get it down to 24mpg
