exhaust question...everyone's worried about sound, what about hp gains?

My understanding from the Forum is that the improvement from a cat-back is so small that it cannot
reliably be measured. There has been semi-scientific claims of 20 hp, but no general hard data supported knowledge as to whether the back half actually helps much. Even alot of anecdotal comments have been "did not really feel a difference."
I talked to a fellow S4er about a year ago (he was from Boston I think) who had an APR turbo back exhaust put on. It was so loud he took the cat-back off and put the stock one back on with the APR DPs. He said it sounded great, and was not noticeably slower with the stock cat back instead of the APR v.2 cat-back.

I really wasn't concerned about sound
When I research exhuasts, I really thought the VM1 was/is the best out there. I'm sticking to that. My only concern about sound was that it might be too loud. I rode in someone else's with a VM exhaust and my issues were silenced. Some think the VM1 is too loud, but I don't think it's too bad.
I really don't understand people that buy an exhaust just for the sound.
