Are they really allowing the use of nitrous oxide in this "S4 Challenge"?
The stuff works, yes, and it has it's place for the drag/street racer, but isn't this about the "ultimate S4" and not "I can spray more than you and make a bigger number"? It should be about who has the best tuned, well designed turbo system, and the best chassis setup. I can run 11's in any POS car with enough spray. It might only survive one pass, but it can be done, and requires little thought. Using it here is an easy band-aid to get fast times. WEAK.
Please. The 1.8T challenge turned into a joke. Looks like this one will too. May the biggest bottle win...:-(
Have they published, or sent out official rules? Man if I was sending a car from a long distance at a huge expense, and I knew it was going to come down to a shot of nitrous, I'd bag it and not even BOTHER going.
If you ask me, the S4 Challenge has merit if the rules are reasonable:
1) No Nitrous whatsoever
2) Same fuel in each car. From an independent supplier.
3) On the roadcourse, run the same wheels and tires on each car, and use the same driver
4) If it were me, I'd mandate 93 octane fuel, to REALLY make it a "challenge" to be fast. Not just max out the timing and boost on fuel with nearly unlimited headroom.
Everyone will know who has and who does not. So if car a has No2 and makes more power you can just look at the rest of the results.
Street tires and pump gas, and now you have my attention :-)
If you think that its wrong to squeeze then the winner in your opinion will be the next car that meets your criteria. Why get upset about a magazine article? They are trying to sell subscriptions and the faster the better for them.
