Fletcher, anyone? audi wheel question, quick google and archive search didn't turn anything up

Background: I was going to replace the strut bearings, strut boots and front brakes on my GFs 5000 tonight, but I noticed a tear in her lower ball joint boot so I aborted the bigger job to wait on parts and did the brakes since they were off anyway.

I noticed her wheels seemed light, but wrote it off as the small size.

Then I looked at the back.

Are these really magnesium or is it just a marking? I haven't tried scraping slivers off and burning them yet..

just dont burn the entire wheel. really though, magnesium corrodes very quicky and severly. That

wheel would look much worse by now if it was pure magnesium. Did you also know when magnesium burns, it creates its own oxygen. the only way to put it out is throw sand on it and run. or let it burn to nothing.

haha :) Probably made of an Mg alloy

I have a Mg plate in the garage that hasn't corroded, but burns pretty good when powdered. Also have a Mg ladder that's similar. Be nice if they do burn, never would have thought those plain little wheels were cool in a small way.

Have to do the testing later, just finished breaking loose the tie rod adjusters and playing the in-driveway laser pointer + T square alignment game, pretty good, now I can take a corner faster than 10mph without squealing. sleep time.
