Default You can't project that unless both cars have matching power curves...

Example, my 911 probably does an eight second 0-60... why? It makes all its power at 5500+rpm, and shifting is very slow. A car that rips me a new one from a stop would learn a lesson about power bands once I get into second gear, though. Of course my gear ratios suck, so I top out at about 195-200km/h

Default Hmmm, why can't you just assume that the first car travels 60mph for another 1 sec making them

x feet further down the road?

Default More specifically....

Car A finsishes at 60mph in 5.5 sec.

Car B finishes at 60mph in 6.5 sec.

During the last 1 second car A travels an additional 60m/h*5280ft/m*1hr/3600sec*1sec = 88ft. or about 4.5 car lengths?

Wouldn't that be a reasonable approximation?

It is doable if we assume they have constant acceleration...

Default Detail:

Assume they have same acceleration:

0-60 for car A is 5.5 and for car B is 6.5
then when they rich 60, car A traveled 73.81 meter and car B traveled 87.25 meter. So their difference is about 44 ft

When they race 1/4 miles.... the B will lag about 200ft

Oh, this is a better approximation I do believe.

IIRC, at 100mph a car length is good for about 1 second in the quarter.

Default Not quite, 100mph is about 145 fps, so 1 second would be 145 feet. 1 car length would be about .1 s

I don't know much about drag racing though.
