Default Hey BeatTheWRX, or anyone else that's had troubles with their rattling glovebox....

BeatTheWRX, I know that you were chasing this problem pretty hard....what did you determine?

Were you successful in eliminating the rattle? If so, what was it and what did you do.

Seems as though mines F'n worse now. Getting really annoyed with it.

If I open it or push on it while driving, it will stop.

I did the "typical" fixes that are suggested in the archives, but to no avail.

Curious if anyone has actually pin-pointed the rattle or not....

Thanks... : )

Default Yah, I had it in both cars, and had two different causes & solutions

The 2000 had the rattle, caused my the top lip if the glovebox rubbing against the underside of the trim - this is the typical rattle most people complain about. The fix was some sort of padding (velcro is suggested in the archives, I used a piece of neoprene from a wetsuit repair path), taped to the underside of the trim at 2 or 3 points. Worked like a charm.

This car's rattle though was quite a mystery. I tried everything, from rubber weather stripping all the way around the glovebox, to felt weather stripping, to velcro, etc.

In the end, I finally figured it out - the switch for the glovebox light was rattling as the glovebox door moved around against it. Took me forever to debug this, but once I found it the fix was kind of easy. I tried putting padding on the glovebox at the contact point, but when that didn't work, I just removed the switch from it's mounting point. The glovebox light now stays on whenever the headlights are on, but I drive so seldom at night it's not a big deal.

Hope this helps! Try wiggling that switch around and see if you can get it to rattle.

Default Mine was being caused by the plastic connectors to the metal frame over the mounting bar...

I greased it with everything I had in my garage without permanent success. I ended up isolating the movement by going the felt tape route on the face of the glove box interior. That fixed it permanently. I spent a good month trying to get rid of the squeek. At least it distracted me from my creaking door sills
