Default Noob question: Has anyone considered replacing the wheel well liner (more)

with something a bit more permeable, maybe like geonet (it's an HDPE mesh with looks similar to the RS4 grill inserts but has a much tighter spacing) reiforcing a screen mesh?

As I understand it, the ICs get their air from both the lower grill and the slots in the wheel well liner. By opening up the wheel well liner a bit, you would be exposing a larger volume of cooler air to the ICs.

Secondly, for those running a Darintake, you would get a better source of cooler air.

I understand the disadvantages of replacing the liner, but for those of us who live in So Cal, it is an option.

Just a thought.

Default The tire will kick up debris into the compartment behind the liner. Remember that the IC (more)

is in there. Water will also be thrown into the compartment if you drive in the rain. While water is not that big of a deal, will cover the compartment in muddy water. You may have a slight problem if you are running a bottom facing darintake.

Would not use an RS4 mesh. However, it sounds like removing it is fine.

Default I've seen this on a few cars, one that comes to mine was 2000 S4 driven by EDDYFIT (Custom plate),

some of the old timers may remember him. He removed the liner and replaced it with a tight mesh. Being in SoCal it wasn't a problem.
