Default APR 93 chip and hybrid turbos?

Has anyone ran either RS4 K04's, or any of the hybrids on an APR Chip? I am mainly interested in someone with the 93 tune but I will not turn down any valuable knowledge.

It seems, at least on AudiWorld, that most people that have upgraded to larger turbo's, regardless if they are straight K04's or hybrids, are using GIAC X or XR chips. Is this because they are the only K03 chips that can accurately adjust for the higher boost at higher RPM's or is it something else.

MMMk, also, has anyone played around with turning down the Boost with either Lemmi, MBC etc. To see if they can get better mileage? I would love to be able to turn down the boost on long trips to save mechanical wear and tear as well as fuel.

I know there is an option in some SRT-4 Stage II software that is mainly for economy and I think this would be a good idea for our S's.

Default I ran APR 93 software with standard K04s.

The APR stuff works fine if you leave the N75 in control of boost (possibly with an MBC in parallel for spike control). If you try and take away boost control from the chip by running an MBC-only setup, you'll likely run into part-throttle limp mode issues.

As far as gas mileage is concerned, just stay off the throttle as Steve says and you'll be fine. That's the great thing about turbos... they've got power when you want it but don't burn as much fuel as an NA engine making the same HP, if you drive conservatively.

Default excellent............

Right now I am at Stg II+ with a tea-kettle under my hood and I can't wait to get VAG so I can see what's going on.

As far as mileage is concerned I have tried to be super consistent on a few trips to see how different speeds affect it. Around town, if I shift like a granny and stay in 6th as much as possible it does the best but on the highway I was surprised.

The following were all driven on level ground with the cruise on for about 70 miles;

at 55 MPH I do very well between 29 and 31 MPG
around 65-70 I get maybe 25 MPG

What's interesting is the other day I had to make a quick 140 mile jaunt which I averaged around 85 and 90 MPH most of the way and encountered some good long hills. I didn't use the cruise because I pay better attention to cops without it, but I wasn't hammering on the car either, just cruising. My mileage jumped back up to 27-28.

The car doesn't really like 65-70.

Default I think our cars get amazing mileage for the power and weight.

I've averaged 21 MPG for years, mostly city driving. My wife's Outback gets about the same mileage.

On long trips stay off boost, no tweaks required and your car should be at stoich re: A/F ratios.
