Default So i was philosophizing and...

i thought to myself, does it really matter whether or not an S4 has 50k or 100k miles? Aren't both cars prone to the same problems. And would a low mileage early year car be that good of a deal? Could it not mean that the car was just in the shop so often that the owner didn't have time to put miles on it? I think this came to me because i am in some philosophy classes (i hate it) and because my S has had so many problems, and it is in the shop right now bringing the grand total to 6 weeks in 8 months of ownership. I am sure that there are peopel out there with alot more shop time but the ratio is kinda bad

Food for thought thats all

Default Hon Philosophy 105 at DePaul

Reading The Republic by Plato. Also in my english class we are philosophizing about love and so on. Reading Augustines confessions, which is kinda philosophy on life at least IMO. All that reading spurred my thoughts ya know lol.

Default think of a car this way... you are adopting a kid. Do want the kid at age 13 or age 2. One part of

having a lower mile car is most of the work needed will come in the later miles. Also with a lower mile car the odds of having hidden problems is much lower. Last these cars could last im guessing 250-300,000 miles. would you want a car with 1/3 of its life gone or with 1/6 or less. You answer the question, everyone is different but most people would want a newer car.

Default Agreed

If i were to keep the car for it's full life i would want lower miles, but i don't plan on it because i don't own that many oil fields to support it's high maintenance costs. I see your point about the odds of hidden problems, but at least for me the work that was supposed to come in later miles has allready came (clutch, seals in the engine, synchros... maybee the guy who had it before was speed racer or something) but if the brakes need to be done every 40 or so and the water pump every 60 and the sparks every 40 and... within the ownership of the car these repairs will come at around 50 or 100 (give or take) at least IMO so buying the car with 50 and with 100 bears the same maintenance costs IMO once again.

Default yes and no... older cars are bound for more problems. After years things just start to break. I not

trying to curse myself have only had 1 problem that was not my fault. It was the washer pump. Yes i did the tbelt and ye i had my tranny rebuilt(dont try to get a car home with no clutch). But ask anyone on the board how much they have put into their car from the 60-70k mark and on. In the end yes you are paying more for a newer car but you have som much extra cost and rocking chairs to fix your better buying a lower mile car. If you want a better example go on the 80/90 forum, urcar, 4000, or v8/5000. Those guys and gals have some high mileage cars. Even with my truck, it has 75,000miles on it and all iv had to fix was the washer pump... me and washer pumps only if ase had a cert for them.
