Default Need help regarding brake rotors & pads for stock brakes..

I'm thinking about doing Zimmerman cross-drilled w/ PBR Ceramic up front & OEM w/ Mintex Red Box in rear. However, here are all my options. Feedback appreciated.

Front rotor options:
OEM
Zimmerman slotted
Zimmerman cross-drilled
Zimmerman cross-drilled/slotted.

Rear rotor options:
OEM
BBS cross-drilled/slotted.

Front pads:
PBR Ceramic
Axxis Metal Masters
Mintex Red Box

I'm using Mintex Red Box for rear pads as I already bought some a few months ago.

Default My $0.02 - I put Mintex Red on the rear of my B5 Passat and am disappointed with them for two

reasons: 1) lots of dust that really sticks to the wheels, and 2) high rate of wear. Now the Passat has solid rear rotors (equiv. to B5 A4) and the stopping performance is roughly equiv. to stock, but the dust level isn't significantly less than stock, just a different color (more rust red than the stock black dust).

ImolaRocket recently did his brakes, and if you search for his post you can get his input. IIRC, he went with Axxis Metal Masters all around and was quite happy with them (but I would check to make sure if I were you).

Good luck, and the Mintex Red may be quite different on the S4 vented rear. I purchased EBC Greenstuff for my fronts but have not yet installed them (stock pads are getting close to needing replaced, but no wear indicator light yet). I bought them totally on comments from the forum. They are supposedly relatively low dusting, with a high level of friction but do wear quickly. I'm fine with short life, I was after better grip and lower dust (or at least a lighter colored dust vs the stock black). YMMV.

Default If it were me, I'd do slotted instead of drilled all around.

Then, I'd use Hawk HPS pads all around.

Default Agreed. Same here Plain and HPS.

Speaking from experience too many troubles with slotted and x-drilled.
