Default RS4 clutch/kevlar disc questions and impressions

I was wanting to get some opinions on the RS4 clutch/kevlar disc combo some are running. I couldnt find much info in the archives, so i wanted to start a new thread so others who are thinking on upgrading the clutch can get some information too.

Whats the pedal feel like? Grab point changed or moved? Does it have a firmer feel than stock or rs4? Will it grab better and last longer if treated right? (im sure all clutchs will last long if treated right)

I will not have a dedicated track car, this will be my daily driver. I will want to go to strip a few times to try it out since I have never been (after I know what im doing), I need something that will be able to put up with a little bit of abuse. I will also attend some driving events to get my skills better, but nothing major and not that often.

Is this clutch available anywhere other than VAST? Meaning, is there any other company that can add a kevlar disc? What are the advantages of a kevlar disc versus a normal one? How would this compare to the quality and grip of a clutchmasters setup? they are quite a bit more expensive, are they worth it?

Default a couple answers inside

I think VAST uses a south bend disk with the RS4 PP. You aren't gonna find parts any/much cheaper than from Vast or from WMS. If you want Kevlar, buy it from Vast. If you want a Clutchmaster's (only ~$200 more, I think) get it from WMS.

You don't want to buy from any other place than Vast :-)

You bought Cadiburn's Stage 3 after yours was stolen at Waterfest, right?

Default Going on about 4000 miles on mine now.(long)

After the PIA break-in period, the clutch feels great. I have the VAST unit. Engagement is very smooth. Feels suprisingly similar to stock. The only real difference is the lower engagement point, but that can be attributed to the wear on my previous clutch(91,000 miles but still in decent shape when I took it out).

I do mostly highway driving, so my break-in period was more like 1000 miles instead of 500, but eventually it got there. Holds in every gear now. I am stage 3- at this point, so no huge HP numbers, but still a good test.

I have only launched it once since the upgrade, and it was somewhat inconclusive. I have 205 Blizzaks on the car now, so massive wheel spin was all that was really achieved. This did, however, show that at least the clutch was not the weak link in the drivetrain.

No idea about wear yet obviously, but I would tend to agree that if treated well it should last quite a while.

One interesting note: kevlar burning smells much, much different than a standard disc. Kind of sweet actually. A nice change

Hope this helps!

he asked:

"Is this clutch available anywhere other than VAST? Meaning, is there any other company that can add a kevlar disc?"

I couldn't answer everything in the post, so i only answered what i knew and could suggest. I'm sorry for only contributing a piece of the answer, clearly thats unacceptable.
