Another frustrating day under the S4. :-/
I am trying to remove the rear differential so that I can install a STaSIS limited slip differential.
The problem has been disconnecting the drive shaft. First two of the bolts stripped. I wasted a lot of time trying to get them out. Finally today I ground the heads off. But I still could not disconnect the drive shaft. So after lots of pounding, heat, etc., I finally decided to remove the drive shaft with the differential. No problem removing the bolts at the front of the drive shaft. But now even the front does not want to separate!
Needless to say, I'm getting quite frustrated by all of this. Already I'm days in to the job and I have yet to even get the differential out! At least the weather has been good.

the snowy lands can make all projects longer just due to corrosion - theres no "right" way just what works in many cases.
if worst comes to worse use a come-a-long to pull the shaft out to rear of car while tapping with mallet this way you have constant tension. just secure it to another car or tree you are just pulling the dshaft not the car
good luck

The way they design it with the mount sliding in to a cup is just asking for corrosion issues.
What really amazes me is that the front mount is also stuck! That doesn't get anywhere as much salt spray as the rear.
