Is the S4 reliable with K04's?

I'd love to have an S4 but I worry about the reliablity. I've heard too many horror stories about blown turbos and such. What's the deal?

other parts go bad on the s4. K03's can last for miles and miles. K04's can last for half the life

of k03's. It is all about the driver. Other parts like the cv boot, tranny, and other little stuff go on our cars. You should have about 3000 at all times to be able to spend on the car.

"more reliable" is probably the phrase I would use.

depends on luck maybe?

Some have had turbos go bad after 1k miles. Mine lasted until 162k miles. And I was chipped since 50k. I'm hoping that my K04s now will essentially last forever.

If you aren't interested in upgrading to bigger turbos -

the repair costs for a turbo swap can be a little staggering. If you see it as an upgrade, its not so bad. On special, WMS turbo swaps cost $1k plus parts (figure $2500 bare minimum). Actual total average cost for K04s is probably closer to $5-6k when all is said an done.

Probability of K03s dying is significant, but not gauranteed

Hmmm. See that's what I'm worried about.

I can't have $3k sitting around waiting for my car to break. I'm really not rolling like that. I just want a fast, good looking, reliable car.

agreed...

Buy a Stage 3. It's already had the work done, been tuned. Probably much cheaper than making your own Stage 3. Now maybe the Stage 3 guys can chime in about any failures they have had.

buy a CPO or get an extended warranty & stay stock, or don't get an S4

Even with K04s, **** breaks. And its more expensive to fix than an A4. =\
