Default Just picked up my car with my new Vast kevlar disc and RS4 PP

HUGE thanks to piggie and kurt for helping me out. Right before I bought my car, the previous owner had kindly installed an Rs4 clutch. We both had no idea, but after doing some investigating I found that the Self adjusting clutch mechanism had not be properly reset. I drove the car like that for a while until I had the time and money to get it fixed. Just recently the clutch began slipping really bad, so I timed it perfectly. I couldn't justify paying to have the whole tranny dropped and just have a stupid mechanism reset so I contacted piggie about buying just the kevlar friction disk (my RS4 clutch had been in there for a total of maybe 5K miles... if that). Piggie and kurt were kind enough to sell me just the disk :-)

Now for the first impressions. With the PP properly adjusted all I can is, wow! The clutch feels completely different, in a good way. I can get the car into first and second alot easier. Makes me think a misadjusted SAC doesn't allow a clutch to be fully disengaged :-/ With the kevlar disk the clutch is a little more grabby, but it feels very simliar to the RS4 and pretty close to stock (from what I remember stock feeling like). I'm in the process of breaking it in so I haven't beat on it yet, but I'm confident that it will be able to hold all the power I can throw at it :-) Overall, I'd highly recommend this clutch set up and, I know this is a repost but, Vast is a great place to deal with.

Default If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll update as it breaks in

I'm doing about 4 hours of driving to and from a gtg tomorrow. So I will have some good behind the wheel time after that.

Default How many miles on the RS4 PP can you have and keep it with just a new disk?

Mine has a little over 10k miles with little if any abuse. thanks...

Default It's up to you really... You should replace the PP when you replace the friction disc

but if you haven't beat on your clutch then it *should* be ok. It all depends on the type of driving you do. The PP wears when you push in the clutch, so if you have 10K miles on it, but all city driving then it might not be in good shape. I mean, it's a gamble. I had my shop fully inspect everything before they installed it. They actually replaced the T/O bearing because it didn't look "right". Also at least 1K out of my 5K miles was all 6th gear cruising back from OH, where I bought the car. So really I only had at the most 4K on this clutch. Talk to piggie and see what he says, but just don't blame him if you old PP breaks and takes you your new disc.
