waxes
i have tried the klasse all in one polish and the klasse sealant glaze. have a 2000 brilliant black and this is tops in ease of application and shine. have to wait for durability evaluation. any one else tried this product?

It must be pretty hard to judge the quality of your wax though cause your car is so new, and would probably retain most of its shine anyway, with just a cleaning..
What other products have you used to compare it with?? I just used PS-215 pre wax cleaner and carnauba wax yesterday on my black car, and I am quite happy with the results.. The last time I had a wax jab was in quite a while too, and teh paint was pretty dull..

i have owned new cars in the past and have used a few products -zymol, maguires nucoat -those come easily to mind. remember zymol as being very expensive and the shine not long lasting. the others ok. the klasse goes on in 1/2 the time with no effort. i like italoy. bought mine from autopia car care products @ autopia .com $23.00 for 16.9 oz for the all in ono and $20.00 for the sealant glaze. also sold by herrington 800 903-2878.

I have a black 4.2 and just ordered "Zaino" polish and products. The application was very easy and the shine is excellent - very wet look. Like you, haven't had it on long enough to experience the lasting effects, but the recommendations on this website were what led me to this product. (You have to order via mail)

Also, the owners manual says that you should <i>only use water to wash it</i>, unless there's very stubborn dirt, in which case you should use a very mild detergent. Is this realistic?

You have precisely the same car as I do - without the PSP. The ming blue looks great when clean - up until this weekend I was using a brushless - pressurized water car wash. The water is not recirculated and this is about the best I can do in the cold weather. On Saturday, I washed it by hand to see how well I could do cleaning the car without waterspots. I'm going to use the Zaino products once the weather stabilizes a little bit - 70 deg F on Satuday and a foot of snow on Sunday. The Zaino web site has some good advice on car care and people who've used their products speak highly of them. If Zaino doesn't work out for me I'll shift over to Mother's or Meguiar's products.
If I were you I'd wash it carefully and start with a wax (or Zaino) that you plan to stay with. I don't think you need to worry about hurting the paint by waxing too early - you've got PSP which means your car was built several months back.
I need to find a better way to dry the car - the chammy is "ok" but not great. I've seen a siicone rubber blade thing that a friend with a BMW swears by. I may try that.
The ming blue is gorgeous - I've had strangers come up to me in parking lots asking about the color. People tend to look twice - at first glance it is black but then you register a very dark blue. At the right angle in sunlight you see a huge blue flash. Gorgeous.
