Called dealer about groans from gas tank area and...
He said unless check engine light comes on and/or I smell fumes it's probably the fuel system re-equalizing itself. And he said they'll check it at first service. With only 1200 miles on it, it'll be a little of a wait for the 7500 mile service. Let me know if anyone else gets this type of service in the meantime.

This reply from the service dept. does not seem out of line to me. I think they would feel that if you thought this was a real emergency that you would be on there door step. Your Q's here have been out of curiosity not safty.

Sounds like quite a few are experiencing this noise
Only clue I have is from what I posted above, I think Quikor hit it on the head that it seems awfully curious, but probably not a big deal. Let us know if you get anywhere :-)

'Cuz they want to do my first oil change at 5k...
I questioned this since I'd heard from the board that the first maintenance was at 7.5k but he said they wanted to do it at 5. Thankfully I do not have "gas noise" but I mentioned it because if they'll willingly do your first service earlier there'd be less of a wait in attending to the diagnosis.

Like others, I got a card from my dealer saying it was time for a service at 5k. However, I soon found out that, regardless of what the dealer says, Audi only pays for maintenance every 8k or 6 months. So the dealer is only recommending service at 5k because they can get more money that way.
Despite this, I took mine in at 5k because I had trouble waiting 8k for the first oil change. They asked me if I wanted this oil change at 5k to be the "8k maintenance" covered by Audi or did I want to pay for it myself.
So, no matter what the dealer tells you, if you don't want to pay for extra oil changes now or down the line, don't take it in until about 8k.
