Is there a diff between the Sports Package 17"'s and the seperate 17" optional wheels for the 4.2?

Default Yes.....

The part number for the 4.2 sport package wheel is 4B3 601 025H, color Z33. They cost $604.00 a piece. The center caps are $25.00 a piece. I know, because I have a set on order. They are currently on factory backorder. The opening order date for them was March 10, 2000. They were a mid-year model change for that package. If you scroll down through the pages, you will see pictures of them posted by a pablo1. He was very kind to post those for me/us.

They look a lot like the A8 wheel. The spokes appear to be wider giving them a more muscular look. The finish appears to be the same. It is polished and then clear anodized which gives a frosty hue to the polish, then clearcoated. They are gorgeous on the car. I believe they are made by Speedline. I know the 17" "pie plates" are. That is what I currently have and I have already had them off my car which is where I saw the Speedline stamp. Most of Audi's other wheels are currently made by Ronal I believe.

If that is too steep, then I found some Oettinger Type RE wheels (made by Ronal for Speedline) that have the same offset and even more clearance for the calipers. They are also a direct bolt on. No hubcentric spacers needed (they are built for Audi/VW applications only). They are equally as beautiful I thought. They are painted silver with a polished and clearcoated lip. I chose the factory wheels because I thought the finish would look better with my Melange exterior. You can see them on A6s at www.oettinger.de which is all in German, but lots of good pictures.

I hope this has been helpful and good luck!

Default Asking because I testdrove a 4.2 with the 17" optional wheels (NO SPORTS PACKAGE)...

and I really though the wheels looked good, they were brighter and looked shineyer than any of the pics I saw of the 17" wheels in the image gallery. I have a 4.2 coming in hopefully next week with the Sports Package, I hope they're the same as the ones that were on the testcar I drove, if not I'll get my dealer to order the right ones.

Thanks

Were they the 8 spoke "pie plates" or 5 spoke?

hmm in the Canadian A6 book, it lists the 8 spoke 17" wheels as optional.

In the States, if you order 17" without sport package, you get painted 8 spokers. If you order sport package, you automatically get polished 5 spokers as part of package. Both 17" x 8".
