Default Had lunch today with .....

a close friend of mine who works for a major athletic shoe manufacturer headquartered in Germany. He just returned from a two week business trip to Germany where he was given a company car to use while he was there. This car was a 2000 A6 4.2 (German spec obviously). He told me tales of driving the autobahns averaging 160 to 180 km/h with frequent run-ups to 220 km/h. He was not comfortable going faster than that, but he said the car had some power left at 220 km/h.

The reason for his call was he wanted me to drive him to my Audi dealer today, which I did after lunch and he ordered a 4.2 for himself! :-)

I wish I worked for a company that has those kind of company cars!

I have the same car here in Switzerland and last week I was also driving around 1000 km in Germany. The highest speed I was driving was 250 km/h on the speedo (about 155 mph) - may be it was 10 less in reality.

I made the same experience as your friend: the car drives nice up to 220 km/h and there is enough power to go much faster but the stability gets terribly bad above 230.

I also drove fast BMW's and Mercedes before and I am dissapointed with the A6. I think Audi has still to go the last mile to perfection in R&D...

BTW I have the sport suspension on my 4.2 - I have no idea how the stock 4.2 behaves on the Autobahn.

Default Drove a BMW 3xx on the Autobahn last November

This was a rental with a manual transmission through Hertz. I drove on an Autobahn from Bremen up to Bremerhaven - about 60 miles - and back again. The BMW felt great up to about 180 km/hr then began to feel very light with a lot of vertical flutter above 200 km/hr. I loved driving that car and the highway was magnificent - coming into Bremerhaven seeing the North Sea is very pretty. The car was a lot of fun to drive and lead to my decision to buy a new car - I finally decided on an Audi A6 2.7T6M.

I did not drive a BMW 5xx but the rental 3xx certainly felt too light above 180 km/hr. I would expect a lowered A6 to feel "heavier" on the road at high speeds than the stock A6.

Default I drove my 4.2 with sport pkg. at speed today to see if the speed governor

had been lifted. It is no longer where it used to be. On an empty stretch of highway I got it out to 140 MPH (approx. 225 KPH). The car was still accelerating in 4th gear. I got the engine and the tiptronic chipped on Saturday at PES. The engine and transmission are both more aggressive. I will post a more detailed write up soon with pics of the location of both units. I amy sneak the sport wheels in again Stu B. Ernst, BTW, isn't your 4.2 governed to 250 KPH (155MPH) like all Audis, BMWs and MB's?

I forgot to mention that the car felt very stable at that speed.

Default You should see his niece

She was an exchange student a bunch of years back...and she
stayed across the street from my folks. I was staying with my
folks for a couple of months (just moved back into town and
hadn't found anything yet)...and found out she was sunbathing
in the buff ...not 100 yards from where I was living. Sorry,
cannot explain the rest of the story....(censored)
