Now I need to learn to drive
This is a 6sp with the PSK package. It sits a bit lower than other A6s, but not a lot. I changed the OE wheels for 17x8 BBS RCs with 235/45 S-02 Pole Position tires. The wheels go very well with the car. I'm sure that 18"s would look great too; this is not a small car.
The car was ready, everything as expected. The paperwork was done in little over half hour and I found myself on 405 heading north to the Bay Area. I took 101 to San Luis Obispo, 1 to Santa Cruz, 17 and 85 to Los Altos. North of Santa Barbara it started raining. It rained, not heavily but steadily, all the way back. Most of the time on Hwy 1 there was a strong cross wind coming from the sea.
My ride for the last 120K miles has been a Lexus SC300, 5sp. Now, don't let let the Lexus label deceive you: the SC300 is very different from other Lexii. For one thing, it's the only one with a stick. It also has a very nice chasis and suspension. A bit low in the power department. If you keep it around 4000 rpm you get acceptable acceleration, but a torque monster it ain't.
The Audi is very different from the Lexus. It is heavier, but the low end torque more than makes up for the extra weight. The car still is in the break in period so I don't push it hard (more about that later), but it is obvious that there is substantial torque.
Other differences: the power steering and the brakes are more boosted in the Audi. I wouldn't mind more brake pedal effort, more road feel in the wheel. I suppose I'll get used to it. The Audi engine is maybe quieter that the Lexus'. It has less of a braking effect, partly because you tend to use lower rpms in this engine, but also because the turbo engine is smaller and lower compression (the Lexus is 3.0litre, 11:1). The Audi is far less sensitive to cross wind that the Lexus.
Speaking about pushing it hard: I cannot do it. I may push myself hard, but the car won't notice: its limits seem well beyond mine. To take this car anywhere near its limit I need to learn to drive again.
