Xenon question cross posted from the s4 board.. Please help
when i turn on my s4 lights they move up and down a little bit for the self leveling feature
and if i go up a steep hill for a while (about 10 sec or more they will then re level
but on my moms new 4.2 whenever you go over a bump, accelerate, brake, go up a hill, speed bump anything they level out and the light stays almost perfectly level
I am wondering are the s4 lights different or are mine broken?
i like my moms lights better because at night when you brake really hard you dont lose any distance in the amount of lit road because the lights dont move.
very cool feature but i want it on my car.!!!
please help

My dealer told me that the MY2000 4.2 has "second generation" xenons - sharper borders of illumination, less stray light and higher intensity. He did not mention that the auto-level feature is better too. But I see the same behaviour on my car.

If your car is lowering the lights when you go up a steep hill, they are malfunctioning. The lights level ONLY relative to the road.
Now as for WHEN they should level, according to the Service Manual, and to me that's the Bible:
* When the car starts, regardless if the lights are on or off. At that point, the lights will be adjusted based on the two sensors on front and rear axle.
* When the car reaches 0mph AND the lights are on. Therefore, no Audi will re-level just because you are braking, accelerating, or going over a bump - or uphill. If it really does, then this is because the Xenon control unit is receiving a false "allways 0mph" signal and tries to re-level at all time.
Hope this sheds some light...<p>Stan
