Default Paint Coming off A6-4.2

Last November I bought a green A6 4.2. As far as I can figure with the flaired out wheel wells and the wide tires it must be creating some heavy duty air turbulence. The car is being sand blasted from the road sand. In front of my rear tires all of the paint is gone from the bottom up to about 8". The rest of the way up the paint is all pitted. There are air dams on the doors and the leading edges of those have no paint left. I took it to the dealer and he took pictures. I take it in Monday for service and will see what they have to say. Has this happened to anyone else? I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

Default I also have a 4.2 and have rock chips (pitting really).....

on the plastic body piece that is in front of the rear tires down at the rocker panel area. There is no pitted or missing paint any higher than those first 3 inches though. This pitting came from the rocks Oregon uses on our snowy roads.

You have me concerned a little. Your description makes it sound like you have a lot of missing paint and a large pitting problem. I wonder if you have a faulty prep and/or paint job from the factory.

Keep us posted on what you hear from your dealer and if possible, post some pictures. Good luck!

For my problem, probably. I wonder how the car will look with them on though?

Default I've seen this too

Not often ( So Cal is short of sand and gravel ), but a few times. Very random thing.

My car has flairs and sill extentions. The rear flairs and leading edge of the sill do take a beating. I've had them repainted twice. Also look at the big fender 911 Porsches. Lots of chipping there too.

Clearguard does help, as well as discreet mudflaps.

When I was talking to the salesman he sugested mud flaps. I told him I din't think that was an option. I put mud flaps on my PU which was OK. I will not put them on a $50K+ Audi!

Here is a picture of the front of my rear wheel well. As you can see all of the paint is gone and the bear plastic is exposed.

http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/Missinig%20Paint.jpg</a

I have the Audi mud-flaps on my 2.7T, and I also have the "sand-blasting" effect just ahead of the rear wheel arches at the lowest part. It has gone thru the clear-coat at about 3000-3500 miles. I spoke with the regional Audi rep about it, and he said "Yes, Audi is aware of it, from the beginning of the current A6." End of statement.
The mud-flaps are not noticable on my car (Black), and so far have protected the aft portions of front and rear wheel-arch body panels. I too do a LOT of skiing, and the stuff put on the roads in Washington and particularly central Oregon is not kind to body panels. I also use a bra for the front end as it covers much more than stongard or similar products. I am still considering stonegard for non-bra (car) driving. With a black car, the bra is not as noticable.
The sand-blasted panels I now clean with a good auto paint cleaner and wax. Without it, the panels look grey. With it, they look black. I may re-paint those small panels and then cover with stongard, but I think the sand-blast effect will be much the same over time.
Your 4.2 with its wider wheel-arches has more "protection" forward of the rear wheel-wells than the 2.7. I hope Audi does something proper for your case, as it sounds far greater than others are experiencing.

Default April: It looks like that plastic body piece down low at the front of the rear.....

wheel openings (as pictured in Huggybear's above post) is easily removable. Is that the case? Is that what you have had repainted?
