Default Some surface scratches on my hood, Tip holding 1st gear, buzzing and paint in front of rear wheel.

I think a car wash that's not my regular (it was closed) and advertises all cloth no brushes put some scatches on my hood. They seem to be only on the surface. I tried some clear coat safe scratch remover quickly on them (I only noticed them when I went to drop of my car at the garage that I leave it at during the week - I live in NYC) and they didn't disappear. They were reduced somewhat. Unfortunately they are in a few locations. On the other hand unless I get pretty close or angle myself they are not very visible. Needless to say I want to get rid of them. Should I give them some elbow grease or take the car to a detailer?

The problem with the paint in front of the rear wheel well that HuggyBear, Stu B and April/Verdegrrl have referred to has begun very faintly on my car. It is hardly visible, but after you posted the pics I went and looked very closely and it is there in its infancy. What a drag. April please follow up with the remedy you thought may work.

I have started to get a slight buzzing at times coming from the headliner or visor that I have read about on this forum. Anyone out there with a solution?

Finally, I wanted to clock my car 0-60. I brake torqued the engine and let it rip. The tip didn't shift and I bounced into the rev limiter. My transmission is chipped as is my engine. Without brake torquing, it shifts at redline. It only ran to 6700 or 6800 RPM for a moment so I don't believe anything could have happened. My next run, 6.65 seconds. Anyone else experience this and should I worry at all about bouncing off the rev limiter.

Default Some suggestions....

Pablo1...try 3 or 4 coats of Zaino Z5 swirl & scratch remover on the hood before anything else too expensive. I tried a few of their because products and have sinced ordered most of them. It's QUALITY stuff and very easy to use.

Knock on wood I haven't observed/heard the buzzing from the headliner that has popped up on the forum yet but do seem to remember that the dealers that are hip on it DO have a solution.

I don't know what to tell you about the engine "bouncing into the rev limiter". Hopefully your momentary excursion in the "red zone" did not cause any permanent damage. But as I'm sure you have already figured out, all that torque from the 4.2 V8 could not have been too healthy for the tranny.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Pablo1!

Default Headliner buzz fix is a trip to the dealer for the ...

installation of a felt strip inbetween the windshield glass and headliner.

Default Various and sundry

For the scratches ... are they just in the clear-coat ? If so, use a toothpick to lay in acrylic clearcoat in the scratch. Wait a few days. Use Meguiars clear-coat polish ( ultra fine ) with an open pore polishing sponge. Use virtually no pressure. Check often.

I'll ask the mechanic how easy it is to remove the rear fender panels. Look for a paint shop that is used to working with aluminium panels. They have to adapt to materials that expand and contract a great deal. They should know how to treat the problems we have.

The rev limiter is there mainly to avoid frying the accessories. Most engines can easily handle 7000 to 8000rpm without those considerations.

Default pablo1: have you contacted your "Tip chipper".....

At the moment I cant remember who you chose. I have never had that happen to me, but I dont drag race. I just use my tip on twisty roads and highways or when I want control of the gears in traffic (wonderful for that by the way!).

I wonder if this is a side affect of your Tip chipping. I would consult with whoever did the chipping. I was going to wait another week or two to ask you how the "tip chipping" is answering your performance goals, but I will ask you now. "How is the Tip chip answering your performance goals?"

Default No Stu B, but I will soon. This happened late Saturday night. The tip chip does make

a difference but I will reserve complete judgment until it is tweaked again by Tony at PES Tuning, I'm glad the limiter was there though. I was wondering if this ever happened to someone else without the tip chip. BTW I don't drag race either. Just trying to see what the time to 60 was. Pretty good though.
I guess Audi is going to have to address the paint pitting in front of the rear wheel wells.

Default Thanks April, the scratches are not in the paint and are pretty narrow. I'll try your

recommendation. I'm glad that nothing happened with the slight over revving - but it sure did scare me when I felt the power loss. I'll wait for your follow up to the paint in front of the rear wheel wells. Thanks again. BTW no comment on the headliner buzz?

Default Thanks JP4, I'll try this first as it seems the easiest. If that doesn't work I'll try April's

suggestion. Regarding the over-revving: the only thing that could have sustained damage would have been the engine since at these RPMs it is past its HP peak and well past its torque peak. It just scared the s#*% out of me. But the engine, tranny, etc. are fine. The car even turned in a pretty good 0-60 of 6.65 sec. right after!
