Default Owner to be Questions (long)

Two weeks ago I ordered a 2001 A6 2.7, Silver, Tungsten Leather, Tip, no bose, no nav, PPL (sunroof, leather, homelink, seat/mirror mem) PPX (Xenon, auto dimming mirror, tip on the steering wheel), PAW (hot seats).

Got a price of $1500 over invoice in writing. Of course no one knows what invoice is yet on a 2001

I know the sport package and 6 speed are very popular in this group, but it was just too sporty a ride for me.

First question, I've been thinking about the NAV package. I just drive to and from work with an occasional trip out of town. Everyplace I go I can find in my sleep. Is it still a cool toy to have? BTW the 2001 include Nav and acoustic parking together, I don't know if they are available separately.

Second question, the dealer really wanted me to order a 2001, instead of finding a 2000 on the lot or on the way that was close enough. (I really wasn't that picky about color and he had about ten on the lot) He promises it in late June. What was his motive, he easily could have sold me a car in April?

Final question, I've read on this board that some problems exist in getting both Tip on the wheel and passenger seat memory. Anyone really know the answer to this. Should I call the dealer about this (make my preference known?)

Thanks, I've been lurking here for about a week and I've learned a ton.
John

The Nav would indeed be mostly a cool toy to have in your case but you might be surprised how useful it can occassionally be. As for the accoustic parking....Not that I have it, I would always get it on a car if it is available. I was surprised how helpful it is and how much it eases my apprehension when backing into close quarters. It even warned me once when a kid darted behind my car as I was slowly backing up one day.

I can't really address any of your other issues directly but I think the TIP on the steering wheel would be a nice little "wrinkle" and memory seats/mirrors are very nice especially if you have more than one driver of the vehicle in the family.

Re: Nav, make sure you see the "protruding coaster" on the trunk lid before you order it. It apparently does work well. If you want a car sooner and the dealer has several on the lot, negotiate and take one of those. I doubt they're all spoken for. I haven't had any problem with the seat memory but I have with a couple of others. See my post just below.

Default Nav is a "cool toy". But very handy- Then again my nickname is Magellan- becuase I get lost alot

Since I'm commuting into a new area, I use it everyday for errands around the office, or just getting to and from the co-workers houses, restaurants, and finding my way to the freeway at night. But last night it worked rather well, had to drop someone off who's from out of town, they only knew the intersections, put them into the nav, and got me there in 10 mins without any problems. So if I had to do it all over again, definitely, I'd get the Nav, but then again, I'm one of those guys who can't have enough gadgets....

Default Nav makes the most sense when............

You are in traveling sales, real estate, or new to a major urban area. Most folks take about 10-15 min to get the gist of the system.

I also ordered a 2001 2.7t . At the time of ordering ( over a month ago) I was told that there was a good chance the passenger memory seat, not the drivers side, might not be included in early production 2001s. I had to sign a statement that I understood this option might not be available and I would accept the vehicle without this option. I have also heard on this board that the tip steering wheel might also not be available in early production. I have no idea why your sales person wouldn't want to sell you a 2000 on the lot, but he gave you a great deal on the 2001. I am paying $1800 over invoice. I think at this point if you aren't in a hurry you might as well wait and get a 2001. Just MHO. I sure hope his delivery estimates are accurate. I was thinking I'd get my car July or Aug.

Default Nav is definitely a cool toy

even if you don't really need it, but with this car getting lost is something to look forward to.

The NAV is a toy- and that's IT! It is also dangerous! When you are driving, keep your hands and eyes where they belong-ON THE ROAD! Entirely too many people are running red lights and doing other idiotic things for your concentration to be lost while playing with toys- and that includes cell phones. But, it is your car that gets bent and your body that might have the life snuffed out. Is the toy worth this risk?
