Default valentine v1 radar detector

anyone have good or bad experience with this detector especially stealth option VG2 detection.
I live in Canada and the fine for owning a detector if caught is $2000.00. Do I invest or pay my speeding tickets. Thanks

Default Used mine in Alberta and BC. Went right past cops with no detection

As you no doubt know, they have radar detector detectors. The Valentine is supposed to be sheilded. This does seem to be the case. I made sure never to abruptly change speed when it went into "instant on" alert. Handbrake and downshift instead. If you are looking at any detector, this is the one to get.

Default Does the valentine v1 radar detector go under the dash.....

with all the wiring in the front and back of car?? Or does it just mount on the windshield? Right know I have a Uniden 6599SWS that also has VG2 Undetectable. I think it works great. But down here in San Antonio the only thing you get from a cop is K band and not Ka or X or Laser.

Thanks,

funny i had the exact same uniden model before i got the v1. personally, i find the v1 to be better simply because of the directional arrows. the v1 is bulkier which limits the number of places it can be hidden. the only option i found was to suction cup it to the windshield. before, i velcroed the uniden.

I mounted mine using the suction cup adapter just to the left of the mirror. This location allows the visor to be used on the drivers side, although you can only rotate it just past vertical, which is fine for my purposes. The connection can be made through the fuse panel (using the rear wiper slot which should be open). The wire can then be snaked along the left side of the dash, up the front edge of the A pillar, and pushed into the forward edge of the headliner where it is not visible. Thus the only exposed bit of wiring is the lower left edge of the dash (about 6 inches). Looks fine and works great. Hope this helps.

We frequently travel to Canada, and like April, have not had our V1 "found" by RCMP yet.

I did the same conecton plus added the concealed display on the dash just below the odmeter. The wire comes out by the steering wheel.

Default As April and Stu B have mentioned, the V1 is detector detector proof. Here's a pic of my install:

When I purchased my 4.2 four and a half weeks ago, my dealer installed it for free. I gave the mechanic $40 so I'm on his good side if I need a favor. The connection wire was placed inside the A pillar, so it could not be seen, and directly to the fuse box. All that can be seen is the short piece coming out of the headliner. Valentine recommends that the detector be placed as close to the rearview mirror as possible (mine is mounted with suction cups). In this position, the V1 has the best range forward and back (through its rear antenna). Additionally, there is a remote hook up for places like Canada and Virginia. It will transfer the lights and indicator via a wire to a small unit that can be placed out of site. This is useful for night driving. I have owned Bel's and Escorts. This one has been at my service (sent in for 2 updates) since 1992. This is, IMHO, the best!
