More about power steering noise.
As I explained in a previous message my 2.7T seems to have an inordinately noisy power steering. When I opened the hood to check the fluid level I noticed a stain, as if the cap had been loose and fluid had come out. The cap was not loose, though, and the fluid level was normal. It also was foamy.
So I took the car to a dealer (not Commonwealth Audi). They said the noise is definitely not normal. They were, however, divided on what the cause may be and where the cure may lie. The first guy that looked at it immediately said "there's air in the circuit, just needs to be bled". Then the service head honcho looked at it and said "no, we don't know what it is but bleeding won't do any good; we may need to replace the pump or even the rack and pinion".
It surprises me that he wouldn't give the simpler solution even a chance. They would not do something like keeping the car for a couple of days, bleeding the power steering system, and charge AoA for a pump + rack and pinion replacement under guarantee, now would they?
