Loosely apply wide masking tape around the headliner and a towel on the hatshelf..........
use an alcohol based window cleaner. Apply with newspaper. Go back and clean with a lint-free towel that has not been washed or dried with fabric softener.

Re: How often should one treat melange leather interiors with Lexol, and which type of Lexol?
I clean the leather in my cars about every three months. I use Lexol Leather Cleaner. I have used it as long as I can remember. I clean every inch of the leather whether it looks clean or not. You would be surprised at what comes off on a white towel.
I use Lexol Leather Conditioner immediately after I perform the cleaning "ritual". I have also used this product as long as I can remember.
Some people do it more often, some do it less often. It depends on your use (or should I say abuse) of your interior. Or in my case, my high level of "**** retentiveness" my wife keeps accusing me of suffering from!
Lexol is one of the best leather care products you can buy. But it is not the only one. One of my best friends will only use Hyde Food from England. But he has an unfortunate Jaquar background! :-) (he is one of those "Anglophiles")
Every time I wash my car, I clean the leather with a damp clean terry-cloth towel. That is fairly effective at cleaning your seats without drawing out the conditioners in the leather.
Find a good brand of leather cleaner/condtioner, and just be constitent with your cleaning and care intervals. Good Luck and Happy Conditioning!
