A6 heads: Are they interchangable w. 5valves?

This has been asked a couple of times by other folks, but I haven't seen an answer. Can you put the 5 valve heads on the older block? Having both gaskets would tell me, but my dealer doesn't have them.

I'm of the opinion that it wouldn't work. Why in the world would you want to?

This is a great question. Did you ever get an answer? A corolarry to this would be are 12 valve drive trains ( at the bell housing) interchangeable with 30 valve? Some of us really like ( and can only afford ) our 12 valve cars but just want them to go faster... There are more go fast parts available for 30 valvers than 12s.
