Extended warranties
I bought a warranty for my 100CS/A6 from Heritage - their website for the warranty company is at http://www.autoservicecontracts.com - link also below. Like others they have two coverages, one basically bumper-to-bumper for cars still under warranty, and another for cars out of warranty that covers a lot but not everything.
I was very impressed with their service, always quick, knowledgeable, courteous, helpful (Dealt with Bill).
I got the warranty about 4 days after I had the car inspected (you don't have to have it inspected but to void the 30 day/1,000 mile waiting period you have to). I did have to, so they arranged, and paid for an inspection to be done at my convenience.
3 Year/40K warranty for my '94 100CS was about $1400 with $0 deductible. I wouldn't say that other companies aren't good, but Heritage is excellent from my experience – and I got in touch with about 10 before actually buying.
Hope this helps,

Heritage Warranty

I bought the warranty a little over a month ago. I supposedly had an AudiAssured warranty on the car, but found that the dealer had fabricated that warranty, so I had to get one ASAP. I've had the car since '98.
The only difference is that you can get what they call a 'new car warranty' if you are still under the original warranty (3 years/50K). The new car warranty is bumper-to-bumper and up to 7 years (more coverage for the money) while the 'used car warranty' is not bumper-to-bumper (but it covers a long list of items, enough for my concerns) and only available up to 3 years/40K in my case.
