TBB and turbo noise
I was driving to Pahrump, NV in my 2.7t and on a particularly empty and straight road I decided to see what the car would do. I was at about 8000 feet when I went WOT. the car accelerated well to about 100mph but then started surging and wouldn't go over 120mph. I backed off and accelerated at less than WOT and was able to reach a somewhat higher speed without surging. At Pahrump the car seemed very weak and the turbos seemed to be making more noise than usual.
When I got home I took the car to the dealer and they found that the TBB had ripped. It took two weeks in the shop but they finally repaired the car. The car now seems to have as much power as it used to but the turbos are still making lots of noise. My wife started looking around for a police car or ambulance the first time she was in the car since the repair because the noise sounded like a siren to her.
Anyway, I am wondering if the torn TBB combined with the altitude may have caused the turbos to overspeed and damaged them. Is it normal for the turbos to get much louder after a short period of time. They made practically no noise at all when new, even now I wouldn't call it offensive but it is much louder then when new (only 3500mi on the car now). Also, what happens when a turbo compleatly fails. Can the bits and pieces of a compressor wheel get into the engine and do damage there.

Mine's louder now after the torn TBB too. I suspect the high altitude load could simulate the effects of higher (relative) boost than stock. It's still a normal sound I believe, just how you came about having it may not be quite so normal. Some have reported having that sound from Day 1.
