The engine, it's a knockin' [long...sorry]
This is a weird one. My 4.2 has been sitting in my driveway for a couple of days. I try to start it up today, and not only is it difficult to get it to start up, but once it does it is running very rough. Sounds almost like its on 4 cylinders. Its knocking, smoking and there is a ton of valve noise. Naturally I shut it off. Tried starting it up a bit later. Its start's up quicker this time, but still a ton of valve noise and smoke. So, I'm driving my GTIVR6 today naturally. Will call the dealer when I get home though. Will try to start it again this afternoon just to see if its doing the same thing. Anybody have any similar experiences?

I have no similar experience but I would say something is bad wrong! I would suggest not starting it anymore and having the dealer truck it in. (Sounds as if the timing has gone to pot- bad ECU.

I agree with the above suggestion and DO NOT start it again. I believe your car has had something wicked come its way. Call a flatbed, have them take it to your dealer so you way can get a loaner in the meantime.

Update
OK..I didn't start it. Called Audi Roadside Assistance and had them meet me at my house. Rolled the car back in the driveway. Guy loaded it on the flatbed and hauled it up to the dealer. Looked pretty sad on the back of the flatbed :-( I'll call the dealer tomorrow. And BTW, the dealer was good so far and said to definitely flatbed it and not start it. Someone from the s-car list mentioned that a timing belt might have slipped? Could be, but does the 4.2 have a timing belt or chain?
