Has anyone modified their A6 4.2?............
I would realy like to hear about what people have done to their 4.2's (chip, exhaust, intake, etc.)as we are planing on tweaking ours. Feel free to E-mail me. Thanks!!!

I chipped the engine and the transmission on my 4.2. The engine chip is said to boost
HP by 22. I feel this mostly at higher RPM's. The Tip chip makes the tranny somewhat more aggressive. Soon the tuner, PES (www.pes-tuning.com) will develop a couple more programs for the tiptronic that will be more aggressive and I will then pick the one that is right for me. I will post my impressions as soon as this is done. I also put in a K&N air filter.

Chipping the Transmission
What exactly does chipping the tranny do anyway? If all it does in change the shift points, isn't that sort of useless with the Tiptronic? It seems like it would be more fun to just pick the shift points by doing it yourself.

This is the way I understand it...
It doesn't change the shift points. It makes the tranny shift faster in the tip mode. The way the tranny is programmed from the factory it takes about 1 second to the transmission to shift gears when the driver selects another gear in the TIP mode. With the chip, this time is noticably reduced. With the first tranny chip that PES put out for the 4.2 (the one I think PABLO1 has) this shift interval is advertised to take .2 secs instead of 1 sec. Pablo1 can confirm this for you.

PES says no. Not without additional reprogramming of the chip...
In a phone conversation I had with PES. I was told that the first 4.2 tranny chip that they have available would not change the ability to shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. It can be done but more extensive programming work is involved.

I honestly don't remember the tip delays from my test drives, but 1 second is a lot of time. Sounds like the .2 sec chip would an improvement that I would want if I didn't drive a 6-speed!

The tip chip makes the biggest difference when the trans is in D. In this position, the kickdown can
very slow to the lowest possible gear. The chip quickens this. I have complained that I felt that the chip should make the kickdown even more aggressive. They are going to call me when a couple of new programs are available so that I may pick the degree of aggressiveness. The truth is that the tranny seems more lively now than when it got chipped (only 3 weeks ago). Tony at PES told me that it may learn my driving patterns better in time. I only use my car on weekends. I will keep you posted.
