The pits and the PITS.....
Yah you read right, my car has little chips of paint on the front of the (plastic) bumper. I guess there is nothing I can do (except touch up maybe). They are caused from rocks from the highway thrown from those titanic trucks with there enormous tiers. You guys have no idea how afraid of them I am. Every time I see one I speed ahead of them in fear. It shouldn't be this way. I wish all M+S tiers had to come with mud flaps that would stop those darn rocks. It just sucks the way they go so slow down in the fast lane throwing rocks on all the pretty sports cars like our Audi's. Also if you have ever taken a rock to your windshield it's amazing how it wont crack most of the time. I took like a 3cm rock straight to the windshield going 80 and not even a scratch. I think it is because the windshield is swept back so much. Well thanks for all the compassion on the monster trucks. THEY'RE EVERYWERE IN TEXAS!!!

I have the same rock chips on the nose (bumper portion) of my 4.2. Its from the rocks that Oregon uses in the winter here. Oregon spreads sand and gravel instead of salt or the newer chemical treatments.
Do you have it all across your front end? How is it applied etc.? I am basically resigned to the fact that I will periodically have to have certain parts of my car repainted. Particularlly the plastic piece in front of the rear wheels down at the rocker panel.

It's on pretty much all of the front-facing surfaces...
...including the backs of the mirrors (but not the headlights - I might do them as well, though the fact that they are plastic makes me think they'll be okay.) That includes a couple of inches up the horizontal surfaces - places that will take hits, in other words.
I have no idea how it is applied, but it took them a couple of hours to do it.
As I said before it's pretty much invisible. I doubt you'd notice it, even up close, unless you knew what to look for. The dealer had it on the "showcase" Imola S4 inside the dealership, FWIW, it looks that good.
It cost me something like $350 to have it done. I'm in MA and we, too, have plenty of sand/rocks/etc in winter so it was an easy choice for me. I got stuck behind a gravel truck going 70 about a week after I bought the car and was nicely sandblasted. No damage.
