Well, I won't bother you-all anymore. I'm through posting on this board but I'd like to thank
I have carefully reread my posts. All I started out with was asking about the "float/dive" thing. I did that because I wanted to be sure it wasn't just me or whether people felt that was acceptable in a "luxury car" or this A6's target market.
I did this BEFORE I tested PSK because I'm paid what I am to put in 12 hours/day, handle a lot of responsibility and travel regularly. I also wanted to hear what "veteran" older drivers had to say and whether I wasn't demanding too much. I simply can't go out and test-drive everything on the market. Finally, I'm not interested in "compact" cars, wife and kids or no wife and kids. It's a personal preference. End of story.
I did NOT bring up the issue of finances. Others did - and my mistake was responding to that. AT THAT POINT, things got out of hand. Some have said or implied my replies were obnoxious, immature and cocky. Let me post some of the subject headings and text to replies to my posts:
"Must be a degree in theoretical finance"
"It's the new math"
"Let's face it. He was obnoxious and immature."
"You're dreaming and justifying. You got no $"
"You might be kicked out. Don't get cocky."
It seems to me people are ASSUMING I'm cocky and obnoxious and know nothing about life. None of you know me and nothing in my posts indicated that. FYI, I've paid an enormous personal price to get where I am, it wasn't handed to me on a platter and no (contrary to some people's hopes) I'm not about to be kicked out of my job - I've interned with the company before and have an exempt permanent position with a guaranteed gigantic severance package. They hired me because they know who I am and what I do. FYI also, my job requires me to be extremely polite and careful since I deal with middle- and upper-managers. I was specifically hired for "maturity" and "down-to-earthedness". It's not worth it to them to hire and then fire me.
Frankly, I've asked questions on other boards and I've asked owners about other "high-end" cars and people have been friendly and helpful. The attitude here is absolutely appalling and saddening. I think the Audi is a wonderful car but if I'm going to be confused with the people who posted some replies, I wouldn't be caught in it for $1 million.
Good luck to you all. I'm signing off this board and won't be reading your replies. Spare the bits and bytes in saying"Thank God".
Peace,
- J.
-------

A little about me
-----------------
For the record, I graduated from college a few months ago, I am a proud owner of a one month old A6 2.7T, and I have the pleasure of reading Audi World every so often. Also, like Sturm and many other young people in our generation, I am gainfully employed ($125,000+/yr), and I work what many of you would deem UNGODLY hours.
I could be fired at any time.
Then again, I do a damn good job at what I do, and no one would ever dream of letting me go. And even if they *did*, I would have a new job in less time than you old farts take to write scathing and superfluous messages to people just looking for help.
What I want to say
------------------
In all honesty, I'm appalled. If you chumps had given me advice when *I* was looking for a car, I would be nowhere near as happy as I am.
Sturm: Go enjoy whatever car you buy. In this price range, and the one below it, there are a lot of great options.
Everyone else: Take your hostility and stick it up your a$$.
I think I'll go DRIVE now.
---------------------------------

I don't think anyody here was being hostile. You guys have to smarten up a bit and stop talking about how much you make. It's irrelavent to how this car handles (which was the issue at hand). Grow up...
Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans

This whole extended thread is a little sad, so I probably shouldn't be adding to it, but I will anyway, because I have become suitably annoyed.
If people want to share their finances with the world, so what? If I were to ask for advice on what car to buy next in a forum like this, the last thing I would expect is to have someone else tell me what I can or should afford just because I admitted I am not an eBillionaire in the above paragraph.
I was both shocked and chagrinned to read the initital reactions to a post which asked others in this community for some help.
There is nothing that says A6s cannot or should not be driven by twentysomethings. Hell, some of us "old farts" ought to appreciate the fact that 23 year old guys like the A6, because it signals that the A6 is desirable for its sporting character as well as its luxurious appointments, safety, and value.
I have been reading this forum for the past couple of months. I think it is simply top notch. I have learned a great deal from April, Eduardo, and many others who are really too numerous to mention. To you all, I owe a lot. There simply is no other source as good as this. I value this forum a great deal, and will continue to post questions and even contribute myself by answering others when I feel capable.
So, in the spirit of international peace, let us all terminate DEFCON 4 alert, stand down and cease hostilities, and slide back into our usual collaborative mode of operation. As they say in the Air Force, "Knock it Off", which is the directive to cease combat maneuvers.
Oh, and MPC, what's with the hostility?: "p.s. go get a bimmer... you fit the stereotype... "
Come now, not even a smiley face? That is about the meanest thing you could say to an Audi driver. I may be stepping out of bounds, but I think you owe Biblio Dwangus a big apology

Peace,
