The BMW 528i wagon, and the upcoming 530i wagon for 2001, simply looks too ugly, and cramped for me to seriously consider getting one although, I like the way BMW's drive better, and the Mercedes wagon seems too expensive and again too ugly for me to consider also..
I wonder how much higher the margins will be for the allroad? Our Volvo dealer admitted to making more money generally on the Cross Countrys and said Volvo does also. I dont think the margins will be as high as on most SUVs, but there is enough there to have justified the development of the car in the first place. Any body have any thoughts on that?
AoA, send us the 2.7T Avant! :-)
I'd also probably have the 2.7T Avant though. told my dealer so when I bought my 2.7T sedan.

Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I think "sport wagons" are obviously much more fun to drive than quasi four wheelers like the allroad will be. With proper tires, a 2.7T (4.2 or S6) AvantQ can go just as many places in the snow as the allroad or Volvo Cross Country.
I also would not try to fool myself about the allroads off-road abilities. Height adjustable suspension or not, I personally would never drive one down a dirt road. They just are not really designed for that. I also could not bring myself to drive $45,000 to $50,000 down the dirt roads I do when I am fly fishing.
This of course is a personal opinion and product desire. My opinions of any type of "SUV" are quite contrary to the majority of North Americans in general. Just look at how successful the SUV market (and in particular, the growing 'luxury SUV market') is in North America and you see why Audi has jumped in with both feet :-)
