Default Outside Temperature Reading

Mine reads about 10 degrees higher than actual. Anyone else?

Default I've noticed high readings and..

thought maybe I wasn't in the car long enough to get a good reading. Assumed hot air from engine spoiled the reading, but I'll keep a better watch for the forum.

Default Mine seems high too, but

could be accurate based on hearing radio news temperatures in nearby areas (ie. Central Park when I'm in the suburbs). Perhaps the key here is determining where the thermometer is placed on the vehicle. I think this is important for us to know, especially in the colder months where accurate outside temperature readings are more critical. Anybody have a clue? Shame on me if I missed this in the manual.

Default My readings are very correct...

In my 2000 2.7T my readings are right on the number all the time. It is important since I think the A/C or Heater works based on the outside temperature. The only time I have seen it high is when the car has been sitting in the sun and its really hot. Check the temperature reading when the car is out on the highway. It should be correct then.

Hope this helps,

According to the service tech I spoke with the reading is based on road tempeture, not the outside air tempature. This is supposed to help the driver gauge the road surface a bit better. If you're driving on gravel versus black-top, you'll get a different reading even if the actual air temp is the same.

Default That makes sense to me because...

the roads around here in summer conditions like last weekend are quite warm.

Default Huh?

Where would the sensor be on the car to enable reading road temperature but not be affected by the heat that is generated under the car?

An infrared sensor pointing down would do it, I think
